海上之梦: Sailing Toward a Shared Future

The “Dream of the Sea” scholarship (海上之梦) is a new educational opportunity launched by CITIC Myanmar in collaboration with Myanmar Maritime University and universities in China. This scholarship is designed to support outstanding students from MMU by giving them a chance to study maritime-related subjects in China.

Each year, selected students will be sent to top universities in China to study subjects such as naval architecture, ocean engineering, port logistics, and marine technology. The scholarship will cover tuition, accommodation, living expenses, flights, and basic Mandarin language training. Students will also receive support and guidance from mentors throughout their studies.

The goal of the program is to strengthen ties between Myanmar and China, especially

through shared knowledge and professional development in the maritime sector. CITIC Myanmar believes that by supporting Myanmar’s young talents, the region’s future maritime industry can grow stronger and more connected.

Lin Wei, one of the coordinators of the program and an MMU graduate, shared that the scholarship is especially meaningful to him. He once had the opportunity to study in China but had to stay in Myanmar due to family reasons. Through this program, he now helps other students reach the dream he once had.

Applications are now open to MMU students. Interested students should contact the university’s international office for more information. The application deadline is May 15, 2025.

This scholarship represents not only educational opportunity, but also long-term cooperation between the two countries. CITIC Myanmar hopes that these students will return with knowledge and experience that can help improve Myanmar’s maritime development.
